We have recently completed a BS4142 Noise Assessment at a small supermarket with relatively large heating and ventilation requirements near Camden Market. The building use required externally mounted refrigeration units, condensing units and air handling equipment.
Like many projects we visit, the location may be in a very busy area with a lot of background noise from the surrounding environment, but that level will soon drop come late evening. Where refrigeration units are concerned they will probably run throughout the night-time period to ensure stock doesn’t spoil. Consideration has to be then given into assessing these units against background level during the night-time when its more likely to have an adverse impact on neighbouring properties.
When it comes to air-conditioning equipment, this kit may only provide cooling during the stores opening hours. Typically a noise assessment would consider the air-conditioning equipment levels against the background levels during the hours its in use. In the clients view this can give a much more favourable assessment.
Hours of use for your proposed equipment is one of the reasons you may find it difficult to find a price advertised online for a noise survey. Your consultant will want to consider your site location and proposed equipment before giving their costs. It may make the difference between a single or multiple site visit survey.
